Michael Sherrill Retrospective - at the Arizona State University Art Museum from February 29th to June 27th, 2020.  In this exhibit of his delicately rendered sculptures, Michael Sherrill seeks to elicit a sense of wonder from viewers and to make them see things afresh. Working with clay, glass and metal, his exquisite floral forms have the allure of Martin Johnson Heade’s passionflower and orchid paintings and the botanical engravings of John James Audubon.  This is an exhibit well worth seeing!

David Hockney’s Yosemite and Masters of California Basketry at the Heard Museum in Phoenix On display through April 5, 2020 David Hockney’s Yosemite and Masters of California Basketry highlights the impact that Yosemite has had over time and space on artistic production, from the valley’s original Indigenous inhabitants to one of the most celebrated artists of the 20th and 21st centuries, David Hockney, with a presentation of his digital images of Yosemite.  Expand your horizons at this exhibit.

Artist Opportunity

The selected featured image will be used to promote the festival through print and online advertising as well as in promotional fundraising products that benefit Friends of the Verde River. The winning artist will receive a $100 award, promotional products that include their image, and a free 10x10 space in the vendor tent at the festival to exhibit and sell their artwork in 2021.

How to Put Announcements in the SVAC Newsletter

We are happy to put member announcements in the Newsletter about upcoming exhibitions, meetings, equipment for sale - basically anything in good tast that our members might be interested in. Here are the guidelines:
  • Two paragraphs or less(preferably on) in WORD format
  • One photo if desired in JPG format. We don't always have room for photos.
  • Please email it to Mike Upp or Patty Hoisch by the 25th of the month prior to when you want it to appear.
  • We try to get the newsletter out by the 1st week of every month.

We Want to Hear From You!

At the recent annual meeting we also discussed ideas for field trips and two rose to the top of the list - The Waddell's Studio and the Melting Point Glass Studio.  We are working on putting the Waddell's studio on the schedule for late fall.

If you have art related announcements, or opportunities for the Newsletter; ideas for meeting programs, or field trips, contact Mike Upp at mjupp10@gmail.com
