Upcoming Art’s Events

This is a new section of the newsletter that is intended to inform our members about upcoming art events in Arizona that they might be interested in attending.  The events can be about a member’s art exhibit, workshop or performance.  The announcements can also be about shows or art events that our members would be interested in.  Any member can submit to this section of the newsletter by sending the notice to Patty Hoisch at  If there is a web link for more information, please include it.

The idea is to expand the number of options everyone has to experience in the world of art.  Here are the first two:
19th Annual Ceramics Open Studio Tour in greater Phoenix on Feb 22nd and 23rd.  This is a juried tour with around 50 participating clay artists.  If you love ceramics this is an event not to be missed.  For more information:

Legends of Speed at the Phoenix Art Museum.  This is a fabulous exhibit presenting race cars as art forms.  If you love beautiful cars, especially ones with their own history, this is an event well worth exploring.  It runs thru March 15th.  Their web site is:

New SVAC Logo Design Contest

SVAC is launching a new logo design contest - open to any member of SVAC who wants to participate.  We are looking to create a new and contemporary logo design that reflects our vibrant arts organization.
  1. Open to all current SVAC members.
  2. Deadline for submissions is January 30th.  Winner to be announced at the Annual Show meeting at the Sedona Arts Center on February 5th.
  3. Winner will receive two years of free Individual SVAC membership.
Logo Design Guidelines
  1. Good starting point - Keep it Simple
  2. The logo needs to look good and be effective at all sizes.  It needs to keep its definition when scaled down for letterheads, envelopes, and small promotional items. The logo also has to look good when used for larger formats, such as posters, brochures and signage.
  3. Each element of the logo needs to be aligned. Left, center, right, top, or bottom.  In other words, the logo should be balanced visually.
  4. The logo must look good in black and white, grayscale, and in your recommendations for color schemes using two colors.
  5. One font is ideal - avoid more than two. The logo should contain an icon or symbol, as well as text, place each so that they complement one another.
  6. The logo should contain, “Sedona Visual Artists' Coalition.”
  7. Strongly consider a custom font for your design. The more original the font, the more it will distinguish the brand.
Contest submission should consist of a minimum of 5 size examples and 3 examples depicting your recommended color schemes.  The submission should be hard copy as well as digital.

Responses should be sent to:
Mike Upp
1525 S Aspaas Road
Cornville, AZ  86325 for digital submissions.
